Website design for New York Times renowned forest ecologist and best-selling author

Suzanne Simard, author and renowned forest ecologist, wanted a website to showcase her research and promote the publication of her first book, Finding the Mother Tree. Through careful planning, design, and development, I created a visually appealing and user-friendly website that highlights Suzanne’s personal story and pioneering research in an accessible and inviting way.

The approach to design reflects Suzanne’s work on the intricate connections within forest ecosystems. The stylized trees and roots in the header image draws attention to the underground networks that facilitate communication and sharing that Suzanne’s research focuses on. Earthy tones, such as deep greens and browns, reflect the colours found in forests of BC. The typography is clean and balanced with lots of white space ensuring readability and supporting a book aesthetic. Key features of the website include a newsletter sign up list, pages dedicated to media coverage and book tour events as well as a newsletter sign up to expand her reader base.

The website was launched in conjunction with publication of her book and helped drive sales of her book, which went on to become a New York Times best seller.
