SUV Jamming

Chevy has teamed up with The Apprentice and created web site that allows you to design your own SUV commercial. Not only is the video mixing tool a lot of fun but it’s an excellent means of culture jamming as a slew of anti-SUV commercials have been created:

Thanks to Lorraine for the link to the site and the links to all of the anti-SUV commercials. Be sure to check them out before Chevy tries to censor them. Happy jamming!

Wow, what a HORRIBLE idea on Chevy’s part. I hope what ever genius came up with this idea gets “FIRED”.

Needless to say, very funny stuff!

This whole story made CNET news with about half a dozen additional very funny ads. Already some of the links in the original entry seem to have disappeared, but these are video captures: http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6056633.html?tag=cnetfd.sd

Thanks Lorraine for the update and the additional link – I’m glad to hear that the story is getting such wide coverage!

Dateline had a 3 minute feature on the Culture-Jamming commericals the other night.

The other site you might appreciate is Tim Trash – a combination site of Google Maps and photographs of empty Tim Horton’s cups scattered about the city.

I just watched the Dateline clip – in case anyone missed the broadcast you can watch it here. I’m glad to see that it got some prime-time coverage, however, as you can probably guess the story was a bit watered down.

Thanks Andrew for the link to the Tim’s Trash site. It’s an interesting use of Google Maps and I expect that the map will fill up pretty quickly given the amount of Tim’s cups that unfortunately don’t make it to the trash bin.

Very cool blog. I like seeing people that are really into it and focused

Hm they have all been taken down. :(

Do you know if they are anywhere else?

Thanks sucks that Chevy took them off their site, although I can’t say that I blame them. Thank god for YouTube though – I did a quick search and it looks as though some people uploaded their videos which are available here. There are also a few videos still hosted on CNET available here.
