Occupational Hazard

There have been several times after sitting through a long session at the computer that I’ve re-entered the real world and found myself wishing I could hit CTRL-Z to undo something. This often happens after an intense Photoshop session as image manipulation is an activity requires constant revisions, a series of undos and redos until you get it just right. Apparently I’m not alone in this as other Photoshop users as well as gamers have reported experiencing a similar phenomenon. This transference of computer commands into real world activities has always puzzled me, so I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this commercial.

The commercial is hilarious, in part because I’d been talking about the exact same phenomenon last night. I seem to recall asking people to shoot me if I develop the “claw” from holding a mouse for too long. Funny the way the world lines up sometimes.

    Dan Zen in a linkspage!
What a small world this is…. just following the Flickr trail, Amy!

I blogged about this myself just recently – of course I only blogged it, I didn’t actually pick up the phone and discuss it with anyone. I’m finding I best express myself through a keyboard and can only just remember how to sign my name on a credit card slip. I used to play Tetris too much and actually hallucinate large moving blocks dropping and rotating…

In a new comedy on Channel 4 here in the UK, The IT Crowd, a tech support guy e-mails the fire department to tell them that a fire is blazing in his office, finishing his message with ‘look forward to hearing from you’.

I just watched the first episode of The IT Crowd last night – very funny stuff! I hadn’t heard of it before, but once you mentioned the bit about emailing the Fire Department I knew that it was worth a watch, so thanks for bringing it my attention. Here’s a link to a clip from the show for those who haven’t seen it – this one isn’t all that techie but a good indication of the type of humour that fuels the show.

Nice to see you again Trevor – the Flickr trail is a long and windy one. In fact, all three of you are Flickrites – I guess it’s a small world for those who spend too much time online.
