Pathway

This painting has slowly been making its way from my mind to the canvas since the idea to paint it flashed into my head several months ago. It’s hard to believe that I haven’t picked up a paint brush since high school, but I can see how recent pursuits of photography and doodling have influenced both my perspective and technique.

I can absolutely see the influences in the canvas. It is a perfect blend of the pen-and-ink doodling work and the often broad brush strokes evident in your photography (even if there is no brush involved). You seem to communicate with colour in your photography (either with a single colour or through the interaction of two or more). Your canvass does the same. I think it’s great!

Is the little widening in the path to the right a milimeter of change?

I do find that sometimes you change and then either consume the change so that you don’t really notice it - but I suppose it is still there - or it fades away and you don’t make expectations or hopes. Perhaps rather than seeking change, you should not seek and it will find you. But this way seems to negate goals. Perhaps a balance.

Thanks for your comments Justin and Dan! Interesting observation about the widening in the path being a millimeter of change - I hadn’t consciously thought of it that way but now that you mention it, it does seem rather fitting. I agree with you that gradual change isn’t ofent noticed and that is the kind of change that the millimeters of change is all about - it may seem small and insignifcant but it does make a difference.
